Community Park

It is planned to construct Eyrecourt Community Park (which includes a playground, community garden, picnic area, and recreational space) in a greenfield site adjacent to the village square and the national school. This project aims to enhance community spirit, provide accessible recreational opportunities for families while capturing the imagination of children, and improve the overall quality of life for local residents.
The field was bought by the community approx 20 years ago following intensive fundraising efforts locally. It is currently attached to the school playing field and is maintained in the same manner as that.

An award of €48,925 was made by Galway County Council Town and Village renewal fund in autumn 2024 to progress plans to develop the site (to cover costs for the planning and detailed design of the project). At the end of 2024, a landscape designer was appointed to progress the design and planning of the amenity. A number of initial designs were drawn up, and these were displayed at a community consultation event in Ferbuary 2025 in Eyrecourt Hall and Event Centre. Following this, the design was updated to account for the feedback and preferences of the community and planning permission was secured by summer 2025. Following this, an engineering consultancy was appointed to carry out detailed design (engineering drawings, bill of quantities, etc) which was completed in late 2025. Our thanks to Galway County Council for funding the project to this stage.

At this stage, we are continuing to fundraise for the required match funding to construct the project and we are applying for any suitable funding streams to construct the project. We know our great community will row in to make sure that they have this top class facility on their doorstep.

The project is shovel ready, and we are excited to see it take shape in the near future!
